The Power of She

The Power of She program is focused around a five-day mission trip to an individual campo in the Dominican Republic. The three main focuses of The Power of She are feminine hygiene related to their menstrual cycle and sexual health, maternal health including the steps necessary to ensure both the mother and the children's well-being, and informing women of domestic violence and what steps can be taken to seek a safe environment.

As a team we have been selected to attend the 2016 Clinton Global Initiative University conference for our The Power of She proposal. We are Camila Rodriguez and Alejandra Sanchez. We are both graduates from Our lady of Lourdes Academy ’15 and attend the University of Florida together. We have also joined BLUE Missions on several service trips, giving us a first hand experience of life in the Dominican villages.

Each year CGI U host a conference where students, university representatives, topic experts, and celebrities come together to discuss and develop innovative solutions to pressing global challenges. This year, President Clinton and Chelsea Clinton will host CGI U 2016 at the University of California, Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay Area from April 1 – 3. The meeting will bring together more than 1,000 students to make a difference in five focus areas: Education, Environment and Climate Change, Peace and Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health.

The University of Florida is not a CGI U school and so we need your help to get us to the conference in California to present our proposal with hopes to gain funding for The Power of She initiative.

Our total goal is $10,000 in fundraising, $2,000 to help send both of us to the University of California, Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay Area from April 1 – 3 paying for our flights from Miami as well as our stay in California.
